Mini freak out

I almost made John take me to the hospital last night. I noticed, at about 6:30 or so, that I hadn't felt the baby move in a while. I couldn't tell you the time the last time I felt her, but I remember thinking as I was leaving work at 5 that I hardly ever feel her when I drive. I remember wondering if the car puts her to sleep and that it will be interesting to see if that happens after she is born as well. So I know that from about 5:00 on I hadn't felt her. My doctor says that if you don't feel the baby move more than 10 times in 2 hours you should call and go in and get checked.

At 6:45 or so I took a drink of something cold and decided I needed to eat something and go lie down on my left side to see if that would get her moving. Usually about 5 minutes after I start to eat she starts to move. Well this time she didn't. I lay there for a while and when John got home at about 7:15 I was really nervous. I told him that she hadn't been moving much, just a random movement here and there, but that she had been moving all day long. So we decided that we'd eat dinner and see what happened, then make a decision about whether to go to the hospital. Long story short she started moving after I had a bowl of Cap'n Crunch, so we're all good.

It's hard to get used to the fact that she is getting bigger and doesn't have as much room to move around anymore. I have been so used to feeling her being active all day long. I can see movement but not always feel it. And my kick count timing is getting longer to get to 10 movements. But my doctor did say that I may feel less and she gets more scrunched in there which does make sense, but it is still nerve-wracking. I'm just glad that I now know where to go in the hospital should we need to since we had our tour the other night. I kept thinking that we'd be walking down the hall in the labor and delivery area and hear some poor woman screaming, but that didn't happen and I am so glad. I don't know why, but I was so scared of that. =)

Anyway, on to other news. John had his quarterly all-staff meeting at work this week and he got another shout-out just like last time. This time it was from one of the top guys - his boss' boss. Apparently he hadn't been sold on hiring a purchasing manager when John was hired, which he said at the meeting, but then went on to say that after looking at all the numbers since John had been hired that he was willing to admit that he had been wrong! I guess John is doing a great job and saving them a bunch of money. So needless to say I am very proud of him! He'll probably not be too happy that I am posting this out there, but he'll get over it.

Monday morning starts one of the last parts of the flooring renovation we've been doing. The tile guy is coming! Finally we will have all the floors done! He should take 3-4 days to complete it, then all John has to do is put in the rest of the baseboards and we will be finished. Thank goodness. This has been a long process but it all looks so good. I'm sure the tile will be great too. My dad is coming out to supervise and I'm excited to see him. He missed the baby shower weekend so it'll be nice to hang out for a few days.

Jenn & Rian's Visit

Jenn and Rian came out for a visit this weekend and it was really a lot of fun. We had a mini baby shower with just the four of us. This is the cake that we got for me:
I tried to write "Vaginas Rule" in pink icing. First problem, I didn't read the instructions on the back of the icing packet before I bought it. So I get home and I don't have an icing tip to write correctly. That's why it is all so globbed together. Second problem, is that I ran out of room while I was writing and I ended up having to write "Vagina Rules". Oh well. We get the point. We also had angel food with strawberries and Cool Whip for Jenn.

Jenn also brought some decorations. We played some adult version Mad Libs which was awesome. I had never seen them before and we did our best to make them as dirty as possible. I would say that we succeeded.

On Saturday night we went to the Diamondbacks game, but before hand we had dinner at a mexican restaurant. The servings were much larger than we anticipated. Jenn ordered nachos and Rian ordered a chile relleno with a burrito on the side. Needless to say they had plenty of food.

The game was fun too. The D-Backs won and we got to laugh our butts off at the woman sitting in front of us who had the oddest way of eating ice cream in a waffle bowl. She had ice cream all over her hands and it was hilarious. Plus her husband had quite the strategy for eating french fries dipped in ketchup. I suppose you had to be there to understand.

And of course we had to compare our bellies. I am on the left at a little over 33 weeks having a girl, and Jenn is on the right at a little over 29 weeks having a boy.

Our next class is on Wednesday. This is tour week - the one I've been looking forward to. I also signed up for a breastfeeding class that meets next week. It's a one shot deal so hopefully I'll get most of my questions answered. If not, there is a lactation consultant who works at the hospital so whenever I have the baby there is someone there I can talk to.

Next doctor's appointment is Tuesday. I get to leave work early. Woohoo!

Baby School

Our Childbirth Education class started last week, and the first session was on relaxation techniques. John and I pretty much giggled through the entire thing. We were down on the floor doing breathing exercises and stress relief, so each of us got a mini-massage which was nice. The video they showed was pretty lame - the couple on it were huge nerds. The woman looked like she was wearing a tent. I told John to shoot me if I ever dressed like that. And the sad thing was that it was a video that was made recently. I'm not sure what we're going to be talking about this week, but I'm looking forward to next week's class when we get to take a tour of the place. Me and my planning nature needs to know where to go and what everything is going to look like. It was crazy though because there are at least 3 other couples (out of 15) that have the same due date as we do! Weird. There is another one who was June 5 but they moved her up because she was measuring big. And I think we were the only ones having a girl. I thought it was odd that we all were in the same class.

The tile guy is going to come on Saturday and give us an estimate. We're hoping to get it done before my mom leaves for her sailing trip, because she is going to come out and be here to supervise.

Jenn and Rian are going to be in town this weekend too. They get in Friday. We are going to go to the Botanical Gardens and the D-Backs game on Saturday and then they leave on Sunday. It'll be a quick visit but I'm glad that they are coming. We're even going to squeeze in a 4 person baby shower.

Other than that, not much is going on. Just trying to breathe - I swear, she is so high she makes it difficult for me to get good breaths sometimes. It's starting to get uncomfortable. I'll survive.

Shower Weekend

This weekend we had my baby shower. It was such a fun weekend. John and I flew in to Austin Thursday and went to see Busha on Friday morning. It was great to see her and she is doing really well. Other than the fact that it was pouring down rain and freezing it was a good day.

We then drove from Austin to The Woodlands where everyone was getting set up for the weekend. I went and picked up my good friends JB and Sara at the airport and went back to my parents house for a small get together.

On Saturday was the shower. My aunts did an awesome job. Here they are with the spread. There were 2 different types of quiches, fruit kabobs, croissants with strawberry cream cheese and 3 different types of cupcakes - carrot cake, double chocolate, and a yellow with apricot filling. Each one had it's own frosting that matched the cake perfectly. So good! They also made a really great punch - which happened to be my one request for the afternoon. We played some fun games. One of which turned into a water balloon fight. And all the gifts were absolutely wonderful. Our daughter will have some of the best clothes. Plus we got a lot of hand-me-downs from Jason and Noel which I have washed and am going to organize today. My sister made some underwear for my mom since she was going to be becoming a grandmother - so of course they are granny panties.

Here are some more shots from the party.

Below is something that my cousin Kristen had done for us. She found a website and put this together using our sonogram. Very cool! We also introduced Ellie to my friend's son, Logan. She thought he was so cool. Huge smile on her part. She was fascinated.

Danny thought it would be funny to try on some hats that I received. He seemed to be more interested in all the gifts than my husband!

We had our doctor's appointment today and everything was fine. All we did was listen to the heartbeat again. So the next one is going to be in two weeks. I will be 32 weeks on Thursday, which is just crazy to think. We start our Childbirth Education classes tomorrow. It's a 4 week series, once a week for 2 hours. John likes to call it "Baby School".

NKOTB

This is not an April Fools joke! Friday morning, on the Today show, the New Kids on the Block are going to be reuniting to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hangin' Tough! How old does that make all of us feel? 20 years!?! What?! Wow! I am so going to have my mom set up the DVR to record it so Erin and I can watch it when we get to her house that afternoon.

Don't miss it!
