One Month Update (2 weeks late!)

I have a free moment while both boys sleep (which doesn't happen often) so I'm going to get a quick update on here.  The boys are now 6 1/2 weeks old but at their one month appointment Jake weighed in at 11' 6" and 22 3/4" long.  That's the 80th percentile for both.  My "petite" Zach came in at 10' and 22" long (the 50th percentile).  They are both doing awesome and look really good.  Their circumcisions went well.  The doctor even went so far as to tell us that they have "plenty of penis" and will "make their wives very happy one day".  John was so proud.  =)  With the exception of Jake's belly button not being completely healed from when the umbilical cord came off, they are both right on track.

Jake started smiling at us when he was about 3 weeks old.  Early, I know, so I wasn't sure they were real smiles but they were.  He can get away with anything if he just flashes the smile.  So far he is a mama's boy and I can tell he is going to be a flirt.

Zach is still pretty laid back.  He is a very slow eater most of the time and makes a huge mess by spitting a lot of the milk out but he's my baby and his big toothless grin is adorable so I don't mind the milk all over the place.  He is our champion burper too.  Nothing little about those bad boys - you'd think he was a grown man.
My 6-week post-partum check up was last week and everything is great.  I am 12 pounds away from pre-pregnancy weight and have already been able to wear some pre-pregnancy clothes so I'm feeling pretty good about that.  The saggy skin and stretch marks, not so much, but I'll get over that.  I am exclusively pumping and giving the boys milk in bottles.  The nursing two babies was too hard and I knew I needed to have someone be able to help me feed them in order to keep my own sanity.  Yes, it is a lot of work, but I want them to have as much breast milk as possible and so far I've been able to stay ahead of them.  They are starting to eat more, however, so I've had to defrost some frozen milk recently and I think I'll have to start supplementing in the next month or so.  I'm disappointed but if it's what they need then so be it.

Olivia has been really great with her brothers (or "baby brudders" as she says).  She gives them kisses all the time and will retrieve lost pacifiers or hang out on the floor on their play mats and tummy time mats with them.  With us she is still struggling with not being the baby anymore.  It seems to happen more with me so she and I are going to have a girls day on Friday.  I'm sending the boys to day care and am taking her to see the Disney Princesses on Ice show and to lunch.  She needs some "mom time" for sure.
